Quick Update!

So James has traveled back home to be with his family during a hard time, and I have been in the village outside of Chennai for the past week. I will be traveling home on the 1st, and no, I am not that excited. If you spend 3 months in a place and get to know everything about it, you dont want to leave!

Rocky’s wedding was incredible. The photo below is so funny because it captures the way we were feeling. I was actually the photographer of the wedding, so you can see that I was totally exhausted and sweaty;

Rocky and Nimmi's Wedding

James was on his way out to the train station (having to say goodbye), so he was actually in the middle of tears; and Rocky & Nimmi were like, “Another photo? Really?”

It has been a great time here in India, but our mission is not done. Stay tuned on this site for updates on the NGO James is starting back up. Big plans and big visions are at work!

Mother Calcutta

The Calcutta Church of Christ met Caleb and me with joy and love. We came into Calcutta at 4am after trying to get some rest on the train floor (Indian style) when our dear brother Russel met us with open arms. We were so grateful to have him waiting so early.  After a few hours of rest, we got an amazing opportunity to lead the singles’ ministry in a lesson. Then a sister took us out for our favorite food – a pig out session – and a day of rest in a elder couple’s flat.

The next day while on our way to the Mother Teresa Mother House, we came across some small orphan girls without clothes,

I was Naked; And You Clothed Me.

and we were confused as to why they were naked in one of the riches parts of town. I watched while rich men and women stuffed their faces with their afternoon’s lunch while these girls played bare in the rich’s filth and trash. Feeling compelled by the Spirit, I went to buy the children some food. I came back with the food, yet I was not satisfied with that. Caleb and I looked at each other as if we were already in total agreement about what to do next.  I left him there while another Brother and I went to buy clothes for the children. I picked out the most adorable clothing that I could find; I felt like a dad getting the opportunity to dress his beautiful daughters. I came back to a hostile crowd, not understanding why we were bothering to help. Some tried to tease the girls, while others criticized my purchase. I came so close to losing my temper that I had to pray in my head for composure. I knew that if I blew up at the men and women, God’s will to show these people the heart of Christ would be for nothing. God really helped me stay strong, and the smile of my brother Caleb always calms my heart.🙂 Check out the video that will be posted under “Videos” to see it all unfold on film.

Then we headed to the MOTHER HOUSE. I felt like I was on fire and ready to conquer the world. I went inside and was very judgmental because I saw Hindu women doing all the work while the nuns were praying by Mother Teresa’s tomb. Then we went into the day care to serve and play with the children.  There I witnessed one of the most challenging places next to the leper colony in Delhi –  a room with mentally challenged children that had been left on the streets of Kolkata. I was at a loss for words and action. I stood there confused with a heart full of anxiety. I eventually gained the courage to sit down next to a child and began to squeeze her hand and pray for her. I just tried to calm them down and hold their toes and hands. Caleb began to play with one of the girls who literally had no eyes and was seriously challenged mentally. She started to use her feet like second hands and climbing on him like a monkey. He was having so much fun, and the child was laughing and enjoying herself so much. He started scatting jazz tunes and beats in her ears, and she loved it. It was so encouraging to see him love that small child.

We enjoyed our time at the Mother House, and it made for a very eventful first day. Nothing can deny Mother Teresa’s incredible love for God that continues to inspire and increase the faith of so many. She is truly an inspiration.

If you are inspired by what Caleb and I are doing, please contact us. We would love to start doing amazing things for the poor around the world and would love your help and ideas!

Darjeeling LIMITLESS

Hey everyone!

Thanks again for continually keeping Surya in your prayers and your thoughts. It is so incredible how powerful prayer is when God sees our faithful hearts! We will be by Surya’s side in 7 days, and we cannot wait to see him.

So we are currently in Darjeeling, a hill city very close to the border of Nepal. If anyone needed advice about where to go in India, I would definitely include Darjeeling as one of the top destinations. It reminds James and myself of Jodhpur and Rajasthan a lot, really just because the people are great, the food is cheap and great, and the atmosphere is awesome. We have been here for three nights so far and that time has included some of our most memorable moments.

On our first full day here, we were exploring the town and realized there were many lame, homeless people on the streets begging. After the first three, we walked past a man who literally had no legs and only one hand. There was something about this guy that told me that he really needed help. This man was a perfect example of an untouchable.  James and I talk about the untouchables  in great detail in our video Three Virtues. While James went to buy him some food, I sat next to him and asked him his name. I then decided to do everything in my power right then and there to help our new friend, Ashok. In this part of town, there are many clothes stalls and shopping outlets, so you can imagine how many people are walking up and down this road. I then started asking people who were walking by to help this man. At first people watched and chuckled because of how unusual that was, but after a while, they either found it in their hearts to give or completely wrote us off. James came back with some food and we ate, but continued to ask and to call for help throughout this fast-paced crowd. We saw a lot! I was actually hit in the back by a foreign woman who thought we were taunting the man. James was spit at, I was cursed at and yelled at, but we knew our hearts and our efforts were for this man and this man, Ashok, only.

After about an hour, two orphan siblings showed up and I sat them down next to us and then we really got crankin’. People were giving food, money, and whatever they found in their hearts to give. James and myself started to really push and some responded and some didn’t. After two and a half hours of raising money and other things for these poor people, we got up, made sure that our friends were going to be okay, and we left rejoicing in the Lord for how much they were given. Ashok must have finished off with at least rs.250, which is about $5.50. That money will last him for more than 4 days. The kids got a box of pastries, about rs.30 and a balloon. To us, who are provided for in numerous ways, that isn’t that much, right? Wrong! I don’t think I have ever seen such gratitude in human beings. The kids were so grateful and so moved, they literally went up to another homeless man that was walking by and gave him half of what they had. What kind of heart is that?! Oh how I wish I had the kind of heart that the poor have.

We were moved in many, many ways. Nothing was planned, we had no initial initiative and no prior motive. God put it on our hearts to do what we could to help these poor people. We saw God work in so many ways and it really melted our hearts and really did leave us broken but joyful. Seeing the kids giving to other poor people and seeing Ashok’s smile led us to new perspectives and changed minds. What also really left us convicted was what we had seen about an hour and half into our time….

I had looked to the right and saw three women dressed in the attire of  Catholic nuns. In my heart, I got very excited to see what Jesus’s message, which they profess to live by daily, would lead them to give to these poor people. I said, “Sisters, please help these poor people.” They looked and then I heard from one of them, “We are coming back.” “Okay…” I thought. They will come back and really give. Thirty minutes later, they come back, but with about three more added to their number. I called out to them, “Here they are, please help them!” They reached into their pockets, looked at us, and turned around and kept walking. Pretending that these people did not even exist. “This is what Jesus commands us to do, this was his ministry!” I called out. With no response, they kept walking.

There were times where I wanted to get heated, express my “godly” anger, which at the time was not godly at all. I was ticked off. James reminded me of what we were doing and how it was about Ashok and these kids. Not the people who chose to ignore it. That helped. Haha.

This time has been great. We have had more joy in our hearts and have been so filled with the love that Christ has for us that we have had times where we just wanted to tell everyone! Praise be to God for blessing us with such attitudes.

Tomorrow we move on to Calcutta for the last week of our trip. Thanks again for all of your support, and we pray that all of you can be moved by our mission and the great work that is being done in Chennai and help by donating. To donate, please follow this link.

May the peace of Christ that is given through the Father be with all of you.

“A miracle has happened. Surya is now in stable condition. The last ten days have been a real battle. I am deeply grateful to all who have joined in prayer and fasting for the life of a very special boy.” – Rocky Braat

Can you believe the Love of God! He took this small HIV/AIDS orphan from India to unite the kingdom of God in prayer. We had brothers and sisters from the United States, Israel, Amsterdam, Egypt, India, Nepal, Italy, and so many other places around the world on their knees praying and fasting for this small orphan from India with HIV/AIDS.

The doctors are amazed, as nothing like this has ever happened before in their hospital. They have the newspapers documenting his survival – the miracle of Surya. He is a testimony of the Christians around the world that united together in prayers.  This boy had less than 7% chance of living if he was a normal boy, but he also has HIV/AIDS and could not fight off the disease. Yet, today Surya is in stable condition and looks to be a blessing from heaven! HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE?? The power of God healed this boy because nothing is impossible with God!

Thank you for your prayers and fasting around the world, and please keep this boy in your prayers to make a full recovery! Surya is such an incredible boy whose life was spared so that Gods power could be revealed! AMEN!

Jesus Heals a Demon-Possessed Boy

14 When they came to the crowd, a man approached Jesus and knelt before him. 15 “Lord, have mercy on my son,” he said. “He has seizures and is suffering greatly. He often falls into the fire or into the water. 16I brought him to your disciples, but they could not heal him.”

17 “You unbelieving and perverse generation,” Jesus replied, “how long shall I stay with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring the boy here to me.” 18 Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of the boy, and he was healed at that moment.

19 Then the disciples came to Jesus in private and asked, “Why couldn’t we drive it out?”

20 He replied, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” [21] [a] BUT THIS KIND DOES NOT GO OUT EXCEPT BY PRAYER AND FASTING.

Love Sent From Nepal

Hey everyone!

So right now we are in Kathmandu, and it is our last day in Nepal. In a few hours we are getting on a bus headed for Darjeeling, and then from there we are heading to Calcutta. For the past fourteen days, we have been able to see probably the most beautiful country in the world. We were able to go sightseeing, stay and eat at a great hotel that provided everyday for us, and best of all, spend time with the church. We spent four days in Kathmandu, then moved on to Pokhara, which is about 200km Northwest of Kathmandu. If you check out the photos, you’ll see Pokhara is non-stop mountains and beautiful all day long everyday. We explored, ate, and spent time with our brothers and sisters. After that we headed to a hill city called Nagarkot, which is about 2 hours Northeast of Kathmandu. We were told you could see Everest from afar early in the morning, so we got up at 5am and watched the sunrise over what we thought was Everest. :]

Please take time to check out the fifty or so new photos that I am posting as I write. Many of them were very difficult to take and edit because of the pure rawness of the content. The “Corruption” photos show many of the stories of poor Nepali children, and the photo, “A Lost Childhood,” depicts how many boys in Nepal are raised and how they live their lives. Check out those photos here. My prayer is that through my photography, peolple can experience the rawness and the realness that James and I talk about in our new video Three Virtues. A new video is also posted under the Videos tab of James doing something crazy (again). You can view that video here.

Thank you all who follow us and really want to get connected. Please tell people about our cause and our mission. We love to hear from you and we desire to feel the connection of the 1st world and the 3rd world.

Thanks again,

New New New!

Hey everyone! Sorry, I know its been a while. The computer I am working on right now is kind of messed up. I actually cannot see what I am typing right now, so bare with me.  So we are in Nepal right now, and it’s amazing. (Photos come out on the 10th.) I just finished a new video to inspire all of our followers and people who are asking about us and what we are doing. Please spread this video around. I would love people to finally see what is really going on!

Prayer and fast

Please pray for Surya! He has a 10% chance of survival right now. He’s being strong and fighting hard but the only way he’ll survive is literally an act of God. He’s an amazing, loving child. please pray

Caleb and I will be fasting and praying for Surya over the next few days until he recovers. We dont have much information except that he is fighting for his life with Rocky by his side. I have sent a message to Rocky about ending our trip early to come back and encourage him and the children. Please pray and fast for this incredible young boy who is always dancing and is always so so so happy! This is a very challenging time for everyone involved especially for their father Rocky who has and will not leave his side. So please pray hard and get on your knees for this special child.
